He was within his office, going over sheets of paper stacked upon his desk with the furrowed brow of someone who took his work a little too hard and a little too seriously, particularly considering how young he looked otherwise. But at the rap at the door, his eyes quickly darted upwards.
"Ah. Lady Maria?"
With a soft smile he drew to his feet, inclining his head politely. "No, not tardy at all. Please, come in." And he gestured to a chair in front of his desk, opposite the one he'd been sitting in moments ago.
She watched him for a moment before entering the room, taking note of his expression, of the look in his eyes as he regarded his work. He was a serious man, this was good, she felt as though she could trust someone as honest looking as he. Still, he was just a babe, she was sure of it, his youth shone through in his complexion, in the brightness of his golden hair and sparkling eyes, Gods, how old was she now? It was hard to recall such a thing as age.
Catching herself from becoming lost in memories too distant to truly remember, she nodded her head and closed the door behind her as she entered his room. Taking the offered seat before his desk and crossing one leg over the other, her hands neatly sat upon her lap for a moment before she plucked the pointed hat from her head. Pale white strands of hair, tumbling down past her shoulder blades once free from the tricorne.
"Thank you for seeing me under such strange circumstances. I do hope I am not causing you any extra work."
"Think nothing of it. I'm happy to assist as I am able."
More work was always going to come. At least this was the sort he felt qualified to handle, strange as the request might be. As Maria took her seat, Anduin nodded and moved towards the nearby cabinets, reaching to open a few doors and drawing down the necessary equipment with a steady and practiced hand.
